Todd Phelps Steps forward in this week’s media. Draws sharp contrast as Austin’s real choice from the other candidates. Outlines the harm to Austin taxpayers from bond proposal Prop. 1. Seeks to protect Austinite’s from being pushed out of their homes by the rising affordability crisis that will be compounded by Prop 1.
Todd Phelps tells Fox 7 News:
“One thing that is sacred to me are the Native Austinite’s and the citizens of Austin that are being pushed out by insurmountable property taxes, out of their homes, it is a horrible time for this proposal.”
Phelps’ went on to say..
“We need high and wide on I-35. We need rideshare and we need a nexus, an east and west nexus, not an 19th Century choo-choo train from a defunct mall to an ACC campus,” Austin mayoral candidate Todd Phelps said.

Every candidate at the forum except Phelps expressed support for the $600 million transportation bond on November’s ballot. Phelps said he is skeptical about the bond, and he is instead making a plea for an expanded I-35.
Phelps was among multiple candidates to propose a general homestead exemption that would potentially decrease residential property tax bills

4 MAyoral Candidates Face off in Tuesday Forum
Time Warner Cable News:
Four of Austin’s mayoral candidates were out Tuesday night for a candidate forum.
Sheryl Cole, Mike Martinez, Todd Phelps and Steve Adler faced off in the forum, hosted by the Austin Hotel and Lodging Association. Many of the questions centered around the future of Austin’s tourism industry.
“We have infrastructure needs, we have transportation needs, and those are all part of a larger puzzle, right? Finding a way to bring our folks into work in downtown and visit downtown,” Justin Brahiel, with the Texas Hotel and Lodging Association, said. “At the same time we have to recognize that if we don’t promote Austin as a destination, people may not automatically come here and feel drawn.”
Local businessman Randall Stephens and Austin Community College student Nicholas Lucier are also running for mayor but did not take part in the forum.
Voters will pick a new mayor in the Nov. 4 election.
