4 MAyoral Candidates Face off in Tuesday Forum
Time Warner Cable News:
Four of Austin’s mayoral candidates were out Tuesday night for a candidate forum.
Sheryl Cole, Mike Martinez, Todd Phelps and Steve Adler faced off in the forum, hosted by the Austin Hotel and Lodging Association. Many of the questions centered around the future of Austin’s tourism industry.
“We have infrastructure needs, we have transportation needs, and those are all part of a larger puzzle, right? Finding a way to bring our folks into work in downtown and visit downtown,” Justin Brahiel, with the Texas Hotel and Lodging Association, said. “At the same time we have to recognize that if we don’t promote Austin as a destination, people may not automatically come here and feel drawn.”
Local businessman Randall Stephens and Austin Community College student Nicholas Lucier are also running for mayor but did not take part in the forum.
Voters will pick a new mayor in the Nov. 4 election.
